Happy birthdays, Twenty-fivers! I’d like you to take credit for all you do in the coming months. As an example, I point to Mark Shaw, who worked for a number of famous magazines, but always stayed a freelancer. Why? Because this way he could retain the rights to his photographs. So this year, keep the kudos for yourself, even if that requires the occasional discomfort. Yes, this means not allowing your good-for-nothing friend to sign the card on that recently-purchased wedding present and taking half the credit. I know that it’s in your nature to share, but this year there are no free rides. Please remember to not crumble in your convictions when your friend shows up at the reception with a gift that was obviously picked up at the gas station around the corner. Who knows, maybe the bride and groom had replacement windshield wipers on their registry.
