Fashion Statement: Lauren Hutton
“I’d like to be the first model who becomes a woman.” Lauren Hutton, supermodel and actress. On this day in 1974, Hutton appeared on the cover of Newsweek under the headline, “The ‘74 Model,” with a feature story about her rise from clumsy gap-toothed teen to the highest-paid model in history, making a then-staggering $200,000 a year. “To me glamorous means something alluring,” Hutton explains in the article. “The Kalahari desert and the Kukukuku tribe in New Guinea are glamorous as hell to me—so that’s what I do.” To read more fabulous Fashion Statements, click here.
