Your Stylescope for November 1, 2010

Find out who in the fashion world shares a birthday with you and learn your destiny for the year. Guaranteed.

Born on November 1:
Edith Flagg
, Romanian-American designer, industry executive and philanthropist; 1919
Barbara Becker, German-American designer, actress and model; 1966

Happy birthday, November-Oner! In my book, you are always number one, just like one of your fellow birthdayers, Edith Flagg. Edith might not be as well known today, but I assure you that in the 1950s through the 70s (the heyday of her clothing company), she was quite a hit at parties. Not only were her clothing lines seven-digit successful, but she was extremely generous with her earnings, spreading the wealth to a number of charitable organizations. And that’s where your Stylescope comes in, my friend. You may have always meant to do charitable work, but the good news is that the universe is opening up a window for you to do just that. I see a philanthropic year ahead, both in the giving and getting sense. You may have noticed that volunteering has a serendipitous way of opening doors for people, and I’m banking on your finding the key to achieving your career dreams through good works. I’m not saying that I see you getting hired on at the corner St. Vincent de Paul store (not that there would be anything wrong with that; think of the scores you’d land!), but I am feeling a relationship connection of some sort happening through acts of giving. So find a charity that relates to your goals and will connect you to influential people and wow them with your Scorpio charisma and charm. As far as your personal style goes over the next 12 months, make sure your wardrobe reflects an ambitious attitude. I’m not talking power suits and neckties—unless it’s a smoking jacket and string tie, à la Alexa Chung. I’m just asking you to put forth a bit of maturity and professionalism to your appearance, and you don’t need to invest in new clothes for that. After all, they don’t say “clothes make the (wo)man” for nothing. Work with what you have and give it a bit of flair—and I’m not talking suspenders and funny buttons. Good luck, 11/1. Now go and show me what you’re made of! —The Style Swami

I certainly feel that an adult woman has a right to determine what happens to her life and body.
