But Patti has quietly collaborated with Belgian designer Ann Demeulemeester for years, and her jackets, ties and combat boots have served as style inspiration for independent-minded girls and boys for decades. Patti once said, “My style says ‘Look at me, don’t look at me,’ It’s, ‘I don’t care what you think,’ ” and that anti-fashion philosophy comes into play for your Stylescope for the year ahead. I’d like to see you adopt anti-establishment behavior in the coming months, and I don’t mean the turn-on-tune-out-drop-out variety. On the contrary, I see you working harder than ever this year on projects and ideas that highlight your best skills and will ultimately serve as your calling card for years ahead. But true success won’t come if you color between the lines, so to speak. You’ll need to think creatively and take artistic risks to see your vision to fruition—and this advice applies whether you are pursuing a career in fashion, work in a corporate office, want to launch a blog or whatever. My point is that your karma will grow and thrive under unconventional means, so think about taking the road less traveled from point A to B, and then watch how attention and opportunity knocks.
As for your personal style, my only advice is to be your most authentic self. A rock-and-roll or punk rock aesthetic always comes from a place inside, and cannot be authentically expressed by the brand of jeans you wear or how you comb your hair.
