We are looking for an Intern!

Our interns would never pair powder blue with Tweety-Bird yellow.

Are you the right gal or guy who’d like to join the crew of OTDIF style slaves? Candidates must be based in the Seattle area, have a strong—if not all-consuming—interest in style or fashion, a familiarity with the world of online shopping and a good knowledge of current collections. She or he must possess endless curiosity, extremely strong research and writing skills, a strong concept of (and belief in) the basic rules of journalism, compulsive attention to detail, an outstanding attitude and work ethic and ambitions to launch a career in some pocket of the fashion world. Extra points go to those who know Zandra Rhodes from Betsey Johnson, Stephen Burrows from Halston and Christian Dior from Pierre Balmain. Daily duties will vary, from researching  Read More »

Rachel’s Greatest Hits

Last week we bid adieu to our dedicated editorial assistant, Rachel Chambers. As the first “graduate” of On This Day In Fashion’s internship program, Rachel tirelessly researched fashion facts, wrote stories, created adorable shopping collages and contributed a number of excellent ideas that we’ve implemented into the site. Fortunately for us, Rachel is staying on as a contributing writer, focusing primarily on her favorite topics, Cinemodes and Get the Looks. In tribute and thanks for her five months working with us, Cody and I offer our list of “Rachel Chambers’ Greatest Hits.” Read on to see our picks:

Rachel holds the unique status of writing the first-ever Story Behind the Styles posted on On This Day In Fashion! The topic is a fun one, too: A Picture of Dorian Leigh. It is, as Cody puts it, scandale! Read More »

Our Internship beats Urban Outfitters Internship

Our interns will not have to work with these interns.

Urban Outfitters just posted a listing for a NINE month, unpaid internship. Our unpaid internship isn’t nearly that long!

The NYT reports that internships are few and far between, but we’ve got two of ’em ready and waiting. Candidates must be based in the Seattle area, have a strong—if not all-consuming—interest in fashion, a familiarity with the world of online shopping and a good knowledge of current collections. She or he must possess endless curiosity, extremely strong research and writing skills, a strong concept of (and belief in) the basic rules of journalism, compulsive attention to detail, an outstanding attitude and work ethic and ambitions to launch a career in some pocket of the fashion world. Extra points go to those who knowZandra Rhodes from Betsey Johnson, Stephen Burrows from Halston and Christian Dior from Pierre Balmain. Daily duties will vary, from researching Stories Behind the Styles to interviewing sources in the industry to gathering looks from the past and present; it is highly unlikely that you will ever make a pot of coffee or pick up our dry cleaning. Interns at On This Day In Fashion generally work four to five days over a 20-hour workweek during a continuous six-month period: We do not offer short-term internships over holiday breaks. Internships are unpaid but academic credit—if applicable—is available. Interested candidates must submit a resume, references and writing samples and answer the following questions:

• What is the most compelling fashion story of the year and why?
• What is your favorite fashion film (either one about or inspired by fashion) and why?
• Which fashion designer (current or from the past) the most under-rated and why?

Email ali.basye@otdif.com by August 10, 2010. Both positions are available immediately.
