“Only the gentle are ever really strong.” —James Dean, American actor, total babe, style icon. Dean died in a car wreck at age 24 on this day in 1955. Anyone interested in learning more about Dean—and adopting his way, way cool style—should rent any of his three films (he acted in a total of seven films and starred in three). Be warned, though: After watching Rebel Without a Cause, East of Eden and Giant, you’ll want to undoubtably drop your next paycheck at the nearest Levi’s store.
